NFL player successfully sues over steroids: St. Louis Rams linebacker, David Vobora, won a $5.4 million judgment against a drug supplement that sold him tainted supplements. He was suspended 4 games by the NFL, but claimed he never used performance-enhancing drugs.

NFL loses big money: The NFL's efforts to get the Supreme Court to consider it as one business instead of 32 separate businesses has failed. The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the NFL teams are in competition with one another for purposes of apparel and cannot negotiate collectively to stifle competition.

Strasburg had a terrible pitching day because his balls were on fire.

So what happened in the 1970s which stopped the regular relocation of teams?

Why do you think FSU would jump at an SEC spot? They were offered one, but chose to join the ACC instead.

I guess I am wondering why the ACC has such a crappy television deal. I don't think this realignment will happen. First, the Big 12 has absolutely no cachet in Florida. Moving to the SEC would be the more natural fit, but the advantages of the ACC and the reality of actually getting to a BCS game makes that unlikely. The whole selling point of the ACC was the academics and the basketball. FSU was supposed to not want to compete with SEC schools and their race to the bottom academically. I don't see how anything has changed in that regard in the last 20 or so years.
mbd1, why good riddance?
I'm pretty sure FSU only played at UVa once in my four years there
FSU played at VA in 1992 and 1995 before starting the regular home and home.

Well, presumably Hamilton isn't going to keep this up either. He's on a pretty torrid pace right now.

Did anyone else see the Sportscenter segment on Bo Bikes Bama? A tearjerker.

For God's sake, please tell me that I've completely misunderstood and that you didn't just say something that any reasonable person would have considered antedliuvian forty years ago.
He was speaking at a City Council meeting. For purposes of free speech it matters whether the speech was a matter of public concern (i.e., political) vs. more private types of speech. There is higher protection for political speech. I have no idea if you misunderstood, but I did provide a link that explained why that mattered. If you have a problem with it being a matter of public concern, you should take it up with the Omaha City Council not me.

I'm not a lawyer, but AFAIK "bigot" is not a protected category. If I'm wrong about that, please correct me.
The first amendment applies since he is a state employee speaking out on a matter of public concern. I think a lawsuit if Nebraska fired him could go either way. It would be a substantial interference test generally and certainly an argument can be made that this disrupts the coaching operations at Nebraska. The fact that he admits to proselytizing does not help him.

I hold that it is wrong to fire somebody because they exercised their right to participate in the political process - no matter how wrong headed, prejudiced or backwards their views may be.
I agree until the airing of their views in public interferes with their ability to do the job. If people think you cannot be an effective mentor to young people because of those views, then you can't really do your job anymore. And, so should Nebraska be forced to hold on to some guy who can't effectively recruit or mentor anymore? Actions have consequences and the one who should suffer the consequences is Brown not Nebraska.

That makes me so sad, but it seems like a wise decision. $800K isn't worth 30 or so concussions a season.

That was interesting. At first, I thought that I was completely on Goodell's side. The position that many players have taken about how Goodell has gone too far in fining them is not one I agree with. Whatever needs to be done to protect players should be done whether they like it or not. OTOH, he is supportive of an expanded season, which is the polar opposite of being concerned about player safety. So, is he concerned about safety or is he trying to appease fans like me?

How is the NFLPA giving unions a bad name by appealing the suspensions? That's the whole point of a union, to collectively defend its members.
I'm pretty sure QBs are members of the NFLPA. What the union is defending is the aggressive, violent members of the NFLPA from punishment for trying to hurt other members of the NFLPA. That makes no sense to me.

One time this guy at my job completely lost his mind and started screaming and threatening a female colleague. Management took disciplinary action and suspended him, and the union successfully defended him. I don't really understand such things.

Surviving life after the NFL
I think the flaw in that argument is that knowledge of the risks involved in playing football is just in its emergent stages.
Plus, the NFL denied it repeatedly for years.
