Giants edge Patriots 21 to 17: With just under a minute left the Patriots allowed the Giants to score a touchdown, and then in the final seconds the Pats failed to convert on a hail mary pass.

The Bengals refuse to trade Carson Palmer: the disenfranchised QB has threatened to retire unless he is traded away from the Bengals. Mike Brown, Bengals president and owner refuses to trade Palmer on "principle" and had the following to say about the situation- “Carson signed a contract. He made a commitment. He gave his word,” Brown said. “We relied on his word. We relied on his commitment. We expected him to perform here. He’s going to walk away from his commitment. We aren’t going to reward him for doing it.”

ESPN analyst and former Buffalo Sabre Matthew Barnaby arrested over domestic dispute: Pulling a Jay Mariotti, it looks like Matthew Barnaby will be spending at least one night in jail. Will ESPN continue to have him on the air after this?

This is terrible news for the NBA and will probably make the Eastern Conference finals a lot less interesting. I wonder if it will hurt ratings as a consequence.

Chelsea will be without 4 starters, Bayern will be without 3 starters. Should make for an interesting match up of the reserve players.

NASCAR tries to do the politically correct thing by having a "diversity program" and they get sued for it. Thanks for nothing.
And how, exactly, are his civil rights being violated (from the article)? Maybe he's not racing in NASCAR because he's not good enough to compete.

I've seen countless replays of the Torres hit and there, in the shot, is a linesman on the boards looking right at Hossa while Torres is hitting him. It looked to me like he was literally swallowing his whistle as the hit happened.

So basically even if the Coyotes make it to game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, Torres will be out.
Matt Cooke seems to have changed his behavior after a lengthy suspension so maybe it will be the same deal for Torres.
The NHL really dropped the ball not suspending Weber and I think it sent the wrong message to other players.

Torres has been suspended 'indefinitely'. Who knows how long he'll be suspended for, but he's in repeat offender territory and he's not a big star so Shanahan will probably come down on him hard.

Evgeni Malkin hits 108 points and 50 goals on the season. Steven Stamkos hit the 60 goal mark today as well.

This is one of the costs of living in a free society: Allowing private groups to choose who they want to associate with. Since Augusta isn't a public accommodation, the Civil Rights Act does not apply to them. If they were running a grocery store, they wouldn't be able to get away with excluding women. But since they are a private club they're free to do this.
It would certainly be fine if the CEO of IBM decided to pull her sponsorship or in some other legal way try to cajole Augusta into changing their policy. Maybe they will yield under public pressure eventually.

If there is a rule that states Williams cannot offer money to his players for deliberately trying to injure another player (which there is) then Williams is guilty for making the offer and the proof is clear that he did that
There actually an NFL rule that expressly prohibits direct or indirect financial rewards for injuring a player on an opposing team. Even if it wasn't a rule it would still be a fucked up way to do business. But you're too busy apologizing for the Saints so I guess you can't see that.
there is no legal basis or proof that the player involved deliberately attempted to injure the other player or was taking up the offer of the coach, simply because some idoit coach made the offer or rubbed his fingers together implying he would pay a bounty.
Umm, no. You are wrong. There was plenty of evidence that the coach offered players money for injuring opponents. If opponents did get injured it is safe to say that the bounty program was a motivating factor because it was in place when Williams was coaching. You might find this hard to believe, but sometimes players listen to their coach.
But basically, you're wrong. The facts are against you and no amount of sophistry will change the facts.

Milbury's misogyny is off-putting. I wonder how many female fans he has alienated from NBCS and the NHL in general through his comments. Last year he called the Sedin twins Thelma and Louise and just a day or two ago he said Bylsma should "take off his skirt" and confront Laviolette. He also said having his assistant intervene was like letting his wife fight for him.
If he had said that stuff on ESPN he would be gone by now.

I was surprised the way Ohio State stopped playing defense in the second half on certain plays. It looked like they just gave up on certain plays.

bperk: I think right now Alexander Semin is getting more ice time than Ovechkin because he is playing harder on defense, blocking shots, and back checking (getting back on defense). On defense Ovechkin tends to be a liability, even in the playoffs. He doesn't look interested in playing defense often times, or he'll skate around high in the defensive zone looking for an outlet pass for a breakaway, instead of covering the point man (the offense's defenseman) or helping the defense in the corner.
This isn't always the case though, sometimes he looks engaged and bothers to play defense. The problem is he isn't consistent. You can't afford not to play defense in the playoffs.
I'm pretty confident though that he'll get a lot more ice time when he's playing on home ice because the home team gets the last bench change before faceoffs, so the coach will probably match him up against the Rangers' weakest defensive pairing or their third or fourth line.
Even so, I think the Caps coach Dale Hunter is making a mistake by not playing Ovechkin more. He's the team's leading scorer and the captain. Ovechkin needs to lead by example by playing hard on both ends of the ice, like a captain should. I'm not really sure he should even be captain of the team, but there you have it.
